Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may be heading back to the UK within the next few weeks, but reports claim the couple have already caused frustration behind palace walls due to a list of requests made ahead of the visit.
According to insiders, the Duke of Sussex has reportedly upset senior members of the Royal Family after presenting what sources described as a “string of demands on behalf of Meghan” before his expected return to Britain later this year.
Harry, 41, is believed to be returning to the UK in July for a one-year countdown event connected to the Invictus Games Birmingham 2027, as well as the annual WellChild Awards ceremony.
It remains unclear whether Meghan, 44, will accompany him, though reports suggest Harry has been trying to make arrangements that would help her feel more comfortable during any potential visit to his home country.
Meghan’s Comfort Said to Be Harry’s Main Priority
“Harry is coming in with all these demands on behalf of Meghan, and it’s rubbing a lot of people up the wrong way,” a source claimed to Heat World.
“Harry says he has no choice, based on how badly things have gone in the past.
“The last thing he wants is Meghan walking into a situation where she feels judged, and he says all he’s asking is that she’s treated with basic respect and not cast as the bad guy before anything’s even happened.”
The insider further alleged that Harry wants reassurance from the family that “everyone will keep things polite and give her a fair chance.”
Senior Royals Reportedly ‘Outraged’
However, the reported requests have apparently not gone down well with several senior royals.
“A large number of senior royals are outraged that Harry’s had the audacity to make all these demands ahead of his trip,” the source continued.
“The fact that, once again, it all centres around Meghan – and presumably ensuring she’s treated with kid gloves.”
According to the report, Prince William, Princess Catherine, and Queen Camilla are said to be particularly unhappy about the situation, while King Charles is reportedly trying to take a more diplomatic approach.
“King Charles is clearly desperate for peace and to keep all sides happy, but he needs to be careful.
“If it starts looking like he’s treating Harry like a prodigal son, it will cause a lot of resentment.”
Meghan Hasn’t Returned to Britain Since 2022
Meghan Markle has not visited the UK since attending Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022.
Prior to that, Harry and Meghan travelled to Britain with their children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 4, for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations honoring the late Queen.
Security concerns continue to play a major role in the family’s decisions regarding UK travel. Harry has previously said it is “impossible” for him to safely bring Meghan and their children back to Britain after losing his state-funded security protection.
“[I cannot] see a world in which I would be bringing my wife and children back to the UK at this point,” he told BBC News in May 2025.
“I can only come to the UK safely if I am invited, and there is a lot of control and ability in my father’s hands.”
Security Fears Continue to Grow
The Duke of Sussex lost access to taxpayer-funded police protection after stepping down as a senior royal in 2020.
Last year, he also lost a Court of Appeal challenge against the UK government regarding his security arrangements. Harry has since continued pursuing legal action and is currently awaiting the results of another review.
Reports claim Harry’s concerns about safety intensified even more after an alleged incident involving Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor near Marsh Farm last week.
The disgraced former prince was reportedly walking his dogs on the Sandringham Estate when a masked man carrying a weapon allegedly ran toward him.
Andrew managed to leave the scene safely by car, and police later arrested the suspect.
“Harry was horrified,” a source reportedly told Rob Shuter. “If someone can get that close to Andrew near a royal estate, then nobody is truly protected anymore.”
